The Ban of Smoking in Movies

India, the world's largest movie industry as regards of films produced and ticket sold, is adopting a censorious regulation to fight tobacco advertising.

For a long time, the government has been trying to set up laws to prohibit smoking cigarettes in movies. Finally, the government announced a notification, directing all movies, as well as TV shows, to incorporate health during the film or the show.

India's Health Minister banned smoking in TV and movies. The only exception is when there is a strong editorial need for the smoking scene. All programs, newly produced as well as old production that shows smoking will also air a 30 second anti tobacco health spot. This spot will be aired at the beginning and end of the program. The anti-tobacco health ticker will scroll at the bottom of the screen while smoking cigarettes is at the screen. Besides, a warning of 20 seconds will be requested at the start and end of the film narrated by the actor shown smoking or using tobacco.

This is a lot stricter than rules in the U.S. related to tobacco advertising. In the USA, only the rating of the movie may be raised. Besides, few of the production companies have committed to on-screen cigarettes smoking reduction.

Foreign movies production will be except from showing an actor smoking. That means, Angelina Jolie can smoke. If Deepika Padokone smokes, there must be an anti smoking ticker.
